Isabella Jimenez-Melendrez

Isabella Jimenez-Melendrez is an engineer at General Dynamics NASSCO as part of the Naval Architecture and Structural Design team. With her experience in the shipbuilding industry and additional experience as a structural engineer, she specializes in structural design and has worked with key construction materials such as concrete, timber, and especially steel. Isabella’s passion for sustainable engineering also led her to contribute to research on recycled polypropylene as a potential structural material.

Outside of work, Isabella enjoys spending time with her family, exploring new hobbies like paddle boarding, and learning a new instrument. Always trying to stay involved in the community, she’s been an active member of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) for many years, where she’s had the opportunity to speak with both college and younger students about STEM, sharing her journey and encouraging the next generation.
