As the proud publisher of Diversity in STEAM Magazine and other noted publications promoting diversity and inclusion in employment and careers, DiversityComm is returning to the USA Science & Engineering Festival as a major partner – helping to inform and engage the Festival’s growing audience in the rewarding frontiers of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts/Design and Mathematics).
Mona Lisa Faris, President and Publisher of DiversityComm, says, “We are excited to return to the Festival, where we enjoy engaging with attendees at this major event, especially educating those of all ages in the importance of science and engineering and other frontiers of STEAM, as it is the future.”
Indeed, statistics show that STEAM-related jobs are growing at nearly twice the pace of all other fields and are expected to increase nearly 17 percent over the next decade, presenting excellent employment and career opportunities, including for women, minorities and other underrepresented groups. In addition, STEAM (with its incorporation of the arts and design) encourages students to explore new ideas and think creatively to solve problems – solutions that are vital to U.S. economic strength, national defense and competitiveness.
As a lead Media Partner of the Festival & Expo, the DiversityComm team is preparing an array of hands-on, interactive activities aimed at increasing Festival event attendance even more, as well as the event’s visibility and engagement via social media, DiversityComm websites, magazines, and the company’s The Inclusion eNewsletter. In addition, Mona says, “We will continue to host a booth at the Festival Expo that provides attendees with resources and information related to diversity and inclusion in STEAM, such as Diversity in STEAM Magazine. We would like the attendees to understand that Diversity in STEAM Magazine was created for everyone interested in STEAM and to enable further promotion of diversity and inclusion in these fields. We hope audiences enjoy the magazine and read it to help gain information on STEAM employment or how to access universities in these fields, plus share the publication with others.” DiversityComm will also provide the Festival’s network and attendees with complimentary subscriptions to the company’s digital publications.
Mona’s keen interest in diversity and inclusion has its roots in her childhood when she had the opportunity to live in different foreign countries, made possible through her father’s job as a corporate diversity officer. “Those childhood experiences not only fuel my passion for diversity and inclusion, but they also taught me the importance of education at a young age,” she says. “Knowing that there is a lack of women and minority representation in STEAM and in understanding the importance of inclusion, I feel it is imperative I bring that same passion and share similar experiences through my publications in order to set students up for success.”
