As a global computer hardware, software and electronics company, the NCR Corporation is known for developing many of the key technologies that keep the banking, retail, and restaurant consumer markets running smoothly – technologies that include ATMs, self-checkout systems, self-service kiosks, and point-of-sale terminals. In these endeavors, NCR depends significantly on the talents and expertise of its workforce in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) — and for global technology companies like NCR, this demand will only increase in the years ahead.

This is a major reason why NCR is participating as a Festival and X-STEM Symposium sponsor, says Yvonne Whitaker, Foundation Lead at NCR. “One of our key goals is to help widen and diversify the technology talent pipeline in STEM, “she explains, “and helping to sponsor an event like the Festival supports this goal.” In addition, Yvonne says, STEM education is one of the 3 pillars of Corporate Social Responsibility that the NCR Foundation (founded in 1953 to help the company support needs in the community) focuses on in its charitable giving to charitable partners.

What is it like to work for a global tech company that is making a difference? José Resendiz, Vice President and Financial Services Leader at NCR, will answer such questions for young students during his presentation as an X-STEM Speaker. José will discuss how NCR is using design thinking to create easy-to-use experiences for customers while solving real needs in the business world. This technology makes possible nearly 700 million daily transactions across such markets as financial, retail, hospitality, travel, telecom and technology industries.

Says Yvonne: “We are living in a very fast and ever-changing world.  It’s important for companies to adapt and change to meet their customer needs. It’s an exciting sector for students who are interested in STEM to understand and explore,” including how companies like NCR see the future of these connected business experiences.

But while NCR helps shape the future of the business world, it is also proud of its history of innovation and community involvement which spans more than 130 years – a history that has seen it evolve into a current workforce of over 30,000 strong, and offering opportunities worldwide. “Today, including in our support of STEM, we take our responsibilities as a member of the global business community very seriously – it’s in our DNA, and dates back to the 1890s when our then directors introduced a comprehensive social welfare program for NCR factory workers.” says Yvonne. “We’re committed to conducting all aspects of business in an environmentally sound manner, in addition to being vigilant when it comes to the safety and health of our employees, and looking out for the needs of our customers and the general public in communities we serve around the world.”   For more information on NCR, including career opportunities, please visit https://www.ncr.com/
