Microbiology Workshop hosted by the American Society for Microbiology

One of the most exciting (and sometimes dangerous) fields in microbiology is the study of infectious diseases like cholera, Zika virus, and the flu. In this workshop, students will model infectious disease transmission within a population and then use their data to trace the origin of the disease, just as epidemiologists do during real outbreaks. Students will be challenged to identify some of the limitations of the model and how it differs from real world conditions. Finally, students will learn about careers in microbiology.

Warning: This workshop will use 0.1M NaOH, which can cause skin irritation.  Latex-free disposable gloves will be provided.
