Driving the Change to Make Healthcare More Accessible and Sustainable Worldwide

“When I started my career in the biopharmaceutical industry as a sales representative, I never dreamed I would be driving healthcare change on the global stage,” says Jim Massey, Global Vice-President of Sustainability Strategy and Engagement at AstraZeneca, a science-led biopharmaceutical business whose innovative medicines are used by millions of patients worldwide. In his position he is helping to make healthcare more sustainable. This means driving strategies that break down barriers for people worldwide to access healthcare regardless of their social or economic condition; engaging AstraZeneca’s 60,000 employees in ways that ensure an ethical and transparent company business culture, and promoting awareness and actions that make sure company products are not only medically effective but also environmentally safe.

Jim says in an interview on his company’s website: “Health is central to a functioning society and connects us all. My motivation is helping people be the best they can be, whether that is our employees, people in our supply chain or the people impacted by the work we do to drive sustainable health.”

Before his current position, Jim’s career included serving as Senior Director/Director Corporate Compliance at MedImmune/AstraZeneca, and District Manager at Johnson & Johnson. He earned his Master’s of Science degree in Organizational Development from The Johns Hopkins University and his Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration from University of Missouri’s Trulaske College of Business.
