“A 24-year-old biochemist won the Miss Virginia pageant by performing a science experiment onstage as her talent”
“Camille Schrier won the Miss Virginia pageant on June 22 with an explosive display of talent. The 24-year-old biochemist demonstrated the catalytic decomposition of hydrogen peroxide, known as the “elephant toothpaste” reaction because of the streams of foam that shoot out of the graduated cylinders as a result of the catalyzed reaction. She replaced her pageant dress with a lab coat and safety goggles, though she still kept her high heels.” Read more to find out how Camille is breaking the boundaries in the pageant circuit and what she will continue to do to promote STEM.
“New scholarship program will send tomorrow’s astronauts to Space Camp”
“A new international education program launched at the 2019 Paris Air Show will reward aspiring young space explorers and their teachers with a hands-on astronaut training experience at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center’s renowned Space Camp in Huntsville. The Astronaut Al Worden Endeavour Scholarship invites students and educators in host communities of major international airshows to compete for an all-expenses-paid week at Space Camp.” Beginning this fall, sixteen student awards and four teacher awards will be given out at participating airshows. “Endeavour scholarships will be awarded based on merit by select stakeholders in participating air show communities” Read more to learn about this scholarship and what it has to offer future astronauts.
